According to Ralph Vacchiano of NYDailyNews.com, the Giants have re-signed backup quarterback David Carr to a 1-year contract worth $1 million (plus $1.1 million in bonuses).
Carr was effective in limited play last season, and provides good depth at the QB position behind Eli Manning. Some believed that he would look to land a starting role somewhere, but apparently he is comfortable with his current situation. Hopefully, he’ll never play a meaningful snap this year.
Vacchiano also reports that the Giants have released running back Ruben Droughns, safety Sammy Knight and corner back Sam Madison. The cuts will free up over $4.25 million in salary cap space.
No surprises here, as all three were buried on the depth chart. Even if the Giants do not re-sign Derrick Ward, Droughns has little left to contribute. Knight and Madison have seen better days, to put it nicely.
