Sugar Bowl Not So Sweet For Fugitive Ingram
...posted by Peter Wade...
Former Giants star wideout and Super Bowl XV Champion Mark Ingram was arrested by federal marshals last night. Ingram was wanted after he skipped town last month. He was supposed to begin a 7-year, 8-month prison term for money laundering.
This is not the first time Ingram has been in trouble with the law. He was jailed in 2001 for counterfeiting and was caught in a FBI sting operation.
Ingram was seemingly on the lam so he could watch his son, who play’s for Alabama, in the Sugar Bowl last night. Fyi, double digit favorite Bama lost to Utah 31-17.
According to Newsday’s Robert Kessler Ingram:
…had earlier asked to have his prison sentence delayed so he could watch his son play in an earlier game against Florida. U.S. District Court Judge Denis Hurley denied that request…Ingram, 43 was arrested in a motel in Auburn Hills, Mich., just as he was sitting down to watch the game on TV, officials said.
The obviously fond of puns federal prosecutor Richard Donoghue said:
“In the game of life, Mr. Ingram apparently has fumbled, and the government is now in possession.”
I wonder if Donoghue will like my headline?
