postGame: Giants 14 Eagles 20

The Eagles were finally able to find a way to stop the Giants with a lot of help from Brian Westbrook who racked up 131 yards on the ground and 72 in the air, the most he’s ever had against the Giants. The Giants had won their last six at home and last seven overall until they were defeated today.

The only first half touchdown for the Giants came on a blocked field goal just before the end of the half, run back 71 yards by Kevin Dockery.

The Giants never seemed to be able to get it going on offense, and were down 10-7 at the half. It was only the third time this season they headed to the locker room on the wrong end of the scoreboard. The Giants missed a big opportunity on a long throw by Eli Manning down the field to Dominek Hixon early in the game. Hixon let the ball go right through his arms and the momentum settled in the Eagles favor for most of the game from that point on.

The Eagles dominated the Giants in time of possession, keeping the ball for over 34 minutes. It was a bad day for kickers on both sides of field, not necessarily due to wind but from solid blocking by both teams.

On the defensive side, the Giants had a tough time stopping the Eagles on third down. The Eagles converted 12 of 18 third down plays. There were plenty of missed tackles. Kenny Phillips failed to wrap up a Eagles receiver that led to a big first down. Antonio Pierce was well outside of Brian Westbrook’s reach when he scored on a 30-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and again couldn’t contain Westbrook who caught a 40 yard pass in the fourth quarter to put the Eagles in the drivers seat.

Donovan McNabb continues to quiet his doubters, and finished 19-30 for 191 yards and a TD on a windy day. After a season high 305 yards last week against the Redskins, Eli Manning threw for a season-low 123 yards today. Manning was 13 for 27 overall.

Steve Smith led the Giants on the receiving end with 47 yards on 4 receptions. Brandon Jacobs had 52 yards on 10 carries but left the game in the third quarter after aggravating his knee injury. He limped off the field without any assistance and was seen on the sidelines but did not return. Aaron Ross suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter. We will keep you posted regarding their status as more news comes in.

The Giants can still clinch the NFC East with a Steelers win over the Cowboys in their game which is already in progress. Currently there is no score with 4:30 remaining in the first quarter.
