Giants are NFC East Champions!

by Rich Resch on December 7th, 2008 at 7:34 pm

With the Pittsburgh Steelers’ stunning come from behind victory over the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Giants have clinched the NFC East division title.

Congratulations are in order.  Despite the way they played today, the Giants are very deserving of the NFC East crown.

In a way, it might be a blessing in disguise that the Giants do not get to truly celebrate this accomplishment, as it should keep them hungry going forward.

I agree, I have no problem with a few regular season losses as long as the Giants get Home Field.

Maybe this loss will give the team “a shot in the arm” as the Ol’ Coach likes to say….again…and again….

How did we clinch the division? Not that I am not thrilled if we did, but aren’t there 3 games to play with a 3 game lead over Dallas, one of which is head-to-head?

Both teams can still finish 11-5, and the tiebreaker is head-to-head record, which is also tied. The next tiebreaker would be divisional record, which again would be tied, so the next tiebreaker would be record in games with common opponents. This is where the Giants have the advantage. At best, the Cowboys can go 8-4 against opponents that the Giants also faced, where as the Giants are already 10-2 in those games.

The Redskins can also finish 11-5, but their division record will be 3-3 at best.

Thanks a lot, thats awesome. 2008 NFC East Champs is a great accomplishment, but they’re definitely satisfied with that by any means, back to Dallas we go

Must win game next week…would be devastating to the team to lose two straight

I really believe the coaches did a terrible job today, particularly on offense. Reverses? Setting up in the shotgun and throwing on 4th and 1? Bad play calling took the Giants out of any rhythm and out of the game early.

On the other hand, what the heck were Hixson and Smith doing dropping perfect passes?
