Eagles Hoping To Continue Momentum

Donovan Mcnabb and Brian Westbrook had their best games of the season last week, with a 48-20 Thanksgiving day victory over the Arizona Cardinals. McNabb was under fire, pulled from his last game in favor of back up quarterback Kevin Kolb, but redeemed himself with a career performance. The five time Pro Bowl quarterback completed 27 of 39 passes for 260 yards, four touchdowns and a passer rating of 121.7

Brian Westbrook, coming off a string of games where he seemed bothered by a litany of injuries, scored four touchdowns, and reeled off 110 yards rushing and 20 more receiving. His sore ankle and knee did not seem to stop him from putting together an impressive performance.

The Arizona Cardinals boast three legitimate threats at wide receiver, with Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzsgerald, and Steve Breaston. The Eagles would either need to shut them down or respond offensively, and the Eagles won the shootout. However they will have a much tougher time trying to force their will upon the Giants this weekend, who pose a much bigger challenge for the Eagles offensively.

Last time around, the Giants shut down Westbrook, holding him to 59 total yards. Leading up to that game, Westbrook had compiled at least 123 combined yards in six straight games against the Giants. Donovan McNabb was a bit more successful, tossing three TD passes for the Eagles, and he kept the game close. The Giants eventually were able to hold on and walk out of Philadelphia with a 36-31 win.

If Westbrook and McNabb can keep the momentum going from their win last week, they could prove to be a formidable opponent for the Giants. However, Brandon Jacobs appears to be getting healthier, as his performance this past Sunday proved, and they haven’t missed a beat in Plaxico Burress‘ absence.

The Giants will be highly motivated to clinch the division, at home, against a long time rival.
