Remember Him

by David Jacks on November 24th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

John Hufnagel was the Giants offensive coordinator from 2004 to 2006. In 2006 he was jettisoned after many claimed he had become to pass happy. Many Giant fans do not have fond many memories of Jon, but then again many also still bash Kevin Gilbride who has won a Superbowl in NY, and has one of the most potent offenses in the league this year. As I have said before, many fans, NOT ALL, believe calling a play is as easy as ordering from Dominos (a feat I could not accomplish Saturday night due to a couple of whiskeys, and by a couple I mean 10 – Apparently Dominos does not serve chicken fingers and disco fries…pathetic). Still in a season in which the Giants  are 10-1, I thought we could still extend a congratulations to this years grey cup winning coach. That’s right, Jon Hufnagel, coached the Calgary Stampeders to victory last night in the quest for the grey cup. Congrats Jon.

Quick side note: A year ago I was in a bar watching the pats – colts game with my buddy Q. I struck up a conversation with an attractive girl who seemed to be very interested in the game. I asked her if she liked the Giants, she paused, and then said ”I did.”  I figured that perhaps she had recently started dating a jet fan and immediately became enraged (In classic die hard form I turned my back on her and told Q she was no longer worth talking to). She tapped me on the shoulder and said “my dad got fired from the Giants so it’s not easy routing for them.”Ladies and gentleman I give you Jon Hufnagel’s daughter. I almost got down on one knee and proposed on the spot. Instead I played it cool, and when she gave me her number on a napkin I was happier then a Knick fan in 2010 (that’s right Im in the future). Anyway, three seconds after she left my friend Q dropped his beer on the napkin. The number was gone and I didn’t speak to him for an hour….finally after pontificating several ways of murder, I looked at my friend Q (a HUGE bills fan), stared into his eyes and uttered these 2 words “Wide Right.” He stood up and  left the bar that very moment…..a stunning turn of events.

hahahah great story…..tooo funny….btw what kind of whiskey were you drinkin? The Good stuff or the $9.99 a handle college special….

I love that you are intersted in the specific whiskey…..Here is a breakdown…remember I live in NYC so everything is expensive.

10pm) 2 rob roy’s – no idea why, but the menu said rob roy so I said, “2 please.”

11pm) A couple of makers marks on the rocks….I can’t feel my legs…I CANT FEEL MY LEGS

12am) 2 jack and cokes….my pee is clear and I am fairly certain I am drinking water, although it is brown and tastes like alcohol and yet I am drinking it like a poland spring after a workout

1am) I am surrounded by car bombs, fairly certain I took 2, one for me, and for the girl who refused it.

2am) Jamison on the rocks…..I am praying no giant is as drunk as me….I am thinking its sad that at 2 am, with attractive ladies around me, I am thinking about the giants

3am) Still concerned about the giants and how sad it is that they are what I think about all the time…but now that I write this I see that it is not sad at all…go blue.

4am) Desperately trying to order chicken fingers and disco fries….my buddy suggests Dominos…sadly the manager, a guy called monica (that can’t be right), will only serve me pizza, but I demand chicken fingers with cheese fries and gravy. After trying to talk him into picking it up at my local diner for 10 minutes he hangs up, but not before saying ” I hope the Giants lose tomorrow.” I have no idea how he knew I loved the gmen but I’m guessing it was the fact that I kept saying if I didn’t get my fingers that Justin Tuck would be over to teach him a lesson followed by, you don’t want chunk coming to your place and roughing you up….

All in all a good night…..thanks whiskey

Haha well my saturday night consisted of downing a handle of Jack with 4 friends for the pre-game then a night of gin buckets and jungle juice….

Since I go to to college in PA the night eventually turned into me chanting G-I-A-N-T-S GIANTS!!! with the 4 Giants fans that go to the school and then everyone else countering with Fly Eagles Fly….Which I eventually ended up playing for an hour straight throughout my house and windows to every eagles fan within 3 miles of my house…

Of course this turned into “well the phillies just won a world series and the mets suck”(I’m a mets fan) Which I counter with well win a Superbowl and then we will talk…Which has them grumbling as they walk out of my room…

    Overall Great Weekend….Go Giants!!!

  • BigJohn

To clarify I play the eagles fight song after every loss and (and for that matter every tie) which angers every eagles fan within an earshot of it….

NiceLittle….thank you for the compliment….nice thing to say. I have always been a better talker then a writer so I am working on the verbose thing….just nice to know you’re out there. Keep reading and of course…Go blue.
