Injury Update - Giants and Cards

...posted by David Jacks...

Plaxico Burress did not practice for the second straight day with a hamstring injury. His availability is questionable for Sunday.

I’ll say it again, no matter what you think of Plax, the Giants are a better team with him on the field. If he can’t  go, Dominek Hixon will replace him.  It is also interesting to note that last time Plax went to Arizona, for the Superbowl, he wound up hurting his knee getting out of the shower. As he said Arizona seems to have a “hex” on him.

Aaron Ross and Brandon Jacobs practiced but in a limited fashion. Derrick Ward took the majority of the snaps with the first team.

Coach Coughlin stated: “If the medical people say they can play, and they are in the right frame of mind, then they will play. Medical people will make the call.”

Just like last year, I expect this to be Coughlin’s line of thinking, no matter where the Giants are in the division race. I think, he feels resting guys is a mistake, as we saw last year against the Pats. If your healthy, you play, plain and simple.

The other good news is Kevin Dockery looks like he will play, and perhaps take over Terrell Thomas’s role in the Nickel.  The healthier the secondary the better against Arizona’s high octane passing attack. Blackburn, Webster and Butler all got through practice without any setbacks.

The Giants are not the only ones banged up, here is what Arizona is dealing with:

Rod Hood CB (Attending family Funeral)       Questionable
Hood is also dealing with sore ribs if he can’t go Eric Green will step in. Hood, the former Eagle, has a history of getting beat by Plax.

Clark Haggans

The Giants must maintain ball control to keep Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner and Arizona’s high-powered offense on the sidelines. The Giants will attempt to run the ball over and over and chew up large chunks of time and yardage. The Giants’ defense will have to deal with the Warner passing show and give the ball back to the offense in reasonable field position. Arizona’s passing offense is its key to success, with such outstanding receivers as Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston. Fitzgerald has 67 receptions for 939 yards and six touchdowns, Boldin has 62 catches for 792 yards and 10 scores. Breaston, a second-year player, has 48 receptions for 642 yards and one touchdown. Arizona is undefeated in four games at home this season./ BTW, saw some cool widgets at statbeast.com. Take a look!
