Brandon May be a No Go

The MRI on Jacobs knee did show no structural damage but he is not completely out of the woods yet. Last year Brandon sprained his MCL and was out three weeks. It seems that this injury may be similar, although it is his other knee this time. There is still swelling, but the prevailing thought is it is not as serious as last years injury. Still, Brandon may not make it to Arizona. Here is what he said about this upcoming week on ESPN’s First Take:
” I could line up and go play on Sunday if our team was in serious need of a running back,” Jacobs said. “But as everyone knows, they’re not. We have a stable of horses lined up and ready to go. So I could play if I wanted to and I needed to, but I don’t know if they’ll let me.”
It seems like Brandon is out, if for no other reason then they are 9 and 1 and why risk it. Derrick Ward would step into Brandon’s starting roll and Ahmad Bradshaw would step into Derrick Ward’s role. The latter, a scenario that may play out next year anyway. These two guys are both capable of handling a couple of games while the Baby Rhinoceros takes time to get healthy. Danny Ware may be activated as well. Get healthy Brandon, big blue is going to need you.
Quick Update: While Brandon makes the rounds, plugging a new video game, he also said this on Sirius radio concerning the injury:
“I feel pretty good,” Jacobs said, when asked about the status of his knee. “I feel way better than I felt Sunday after the game. I did the same thing I did against Dallas last year, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was then. I’ll be fine. It’s my call and we’ll be all right.”
As Lawrence Tynes found out, it is definitely not his call. The ESPN quote came second, in which he says “I don’t know if they will let me.” As Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News point out, clearly someone got to Jacobs in between interviews. Either that, or he realized the err of his ways. For those of you concerned with Jacobs not focusing on football, Tuesday is a regular day off for the players.
