postGame: Giants 30 Ravens 10

By Rob Harding on Nov 16, 2008, 4:18 pm

Put it in the books! The Giants defeated the Ravens by a score of 30-10, putting their 2008 record to a mighty 9-1. The Giants are now 2.5 games ahead of the second place Redskins in the NFC East.

The Giants dominated the time of possession for much of the day, and scored touchdowns on their first three drives. Brandon Jacobs scored two of those TDs and rushed for 70 yards in the first half alone. To put that into perspective, the Ravens defense was allowing 65 yards a GAME. Yeah, great job by that OLine and big Brandon. Eli Manning was decent, throwing for 153 yards on 13/23 passing. He threw a touchdown to TE Darcy Johnson to cap off the first half scoring.

The Giants defensive line failed to get much pressure on Ravens QB Joe Flacco, as they only had one sack courtesy of Mathias Kiwanuka. The big man in the secondary was Aaron Ross, who had his first two interceptions of the year, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Good for Aaron after a rough few weeks.

A few notes:

  • Jacobs did not play much in the second half, after getting injured in the 1st half. No definitive injury was given by the broadcast team.
  • Ahmad Bradshaw picked up the slack and rushed for 96 yards on 9 carries, 76 of which came on one long run.
  • Lawrence Tynes was 2/3 on extra points and 1/1 on field goals in his first start of the year.

The Giants are on the road next week against the first place Arizona Cardinals. Gametime is scheduled for 4:15 on FOX.

As a Giants fan transplanted to Baltimore, I wasn’t shocked that immediately after the game, the local Ravens radio station had no postgame talk. Just the DJs joking around with ex Raven Mike Flynn.

I can’t stand this fanbase. They talk shit about their team even when they are atrocious, and when they can’t put up they pretend football doesn’t exist, at least until the next Wednsday or so when they start getting built up for the next game. I laughed quite a bit when the station aired a commercial saying “to listen in as the Ravens pummel the Colts”. Too bad Indy won the game.

Perhaps I’m just too used to being a Giants fan, where we aren’t afraid to call out bad performances and never take any game for granted (we’ve been burned by that too many times in the past).
