NY Love

By David Jacks on Nov 14, 2008, 1:00 pm

Perhaps it’s sports karma. After all, NY fans have had to sit idly by as their rivals dominated. We watched as the Sox won a couple of  world series, the Pats become a dynasty (ok we got some revenge), the Phillies finally getting their hardware and the Celtics rose from the ashes. But on this day, NY football stands alone. The Jets and the Giants sit atop their respective division for the first time EVER this late in a season.

In fact in 84 years, only 5 times have these two teams made the playoffs in the same year. For only 18 weeks have they both held a division lead and that was in 3 lonely years (85, 86 and 97). But here we are, with the Giants at 8-1 and the Jets at 7-3. Sports Karma can git ya, so I will say no more, but for this week enjoy it, revel in it, it may not happen again for a long time. If you’re a dreamer perhaps you have considered a Jets – Giants Superbowl…one can only dream. Favre against Webster one more time,  a chance to redeem or perhaps a chance to repeat…..ok way to mushy, I just poured baking powder in my eye. One game at a time.

In the most courageous of Die Hard acts, my friend Faz’s uncle was in the hospital having surgery for Pancreatic Cancer, all he wanted to know was if he could watch the Jets play the Pats after the surgery. They set up a TV for him and he watched as gang green found a way against the Pats….Here is to you Franks Uncle, the most Die Hard fan I know! This guy deserves a “here’s to you” commercial doesn’t he?….Or at least the chance to sing “saved by zero” every 3 minutes during breaks.
