The Giants pulled out a wild win in Philadelphia tonight, in a back and forth hard fought battle that essentially ended when the Giants stopped Brian Westbrook from getting a first down on a pivotal fourth and goal in the final minutes of the game.
A slim five point lead was threatened, when the Giants turned the ball over to the Eagles with a little over three minutes remaining. The Eagles managed to take it down to their own 45 but Chase Blackburn would deny Westbrook that single yard to continue the drive.
It was a physical game, a strange game penalty wise, but the Giants did a good job at controlling the clock, and putting the ball on the ground. They kept Brian Westbrook in check, limiting him to 26 yards rushing and 33 yards receiving.
A big play came in the third quarter when it appeared that Eli Manning threw a forward pass that would have put the Giants at a 4th and 15 but coach Tom Coughlin challenged the play, extending the drive and eventually leading to a Brandon Jacobs touchdown. Instead of the score being 24-23 Giants on a likely field goal, the Giants took a 27-24 lead, sending the momentum back their way.
Jacobs had a superb game, despite a slight case of fumblitis, he scored his second touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter to extend the Giants lead to 36-24. He compiled a 126 rushing yards on the night.
Donovan McNabb had a terrible start to the game, and failed to get a completed pass until several drives in. He wound up with impressive offensive numbers to end the game but was not good on short yardage situations on third down, and allowed the Giants to stay in the game.
The Giants have really put themselves in great position in their division with this win, giving them a 2 and a half game lead. They have a tough schedule from here out, facing the Ravens next week at Giants Stadium, then Arizona, Washington, Philly again, Dallas, Carolina and closing it out in Minny. All of these teams with winning records.
