No need for an appeal

Justin Tuck need not appeal. The NFL has rescinded the 7,500 fine levied out earlier this week. According to the Star Ledger, commissioner Roger Goodell, had not even seen the play until today. He did say this about the call:

“The officials are instructed to err on the side of safety,” the NFL official said. “Therefore, we support the call on the field. However, as you know, most penalties do not require a fine. A fine was not justified.”

Most appeals are turned down, so kudos to the NFL for seeing the err of their ways. Of course the foul was the wrong call to begin with, but they did not back up one mistake with another. Coughlin deserves some credit too, for sticking by one of his players, and Tuck for not shelling out the chump change on principal.

I said the fine for Tuck was like me buying a twix bar, but with some simple math reader wjchin pointed out that this particular twix bar may cost me over a 100 dollars. They do have extra chocolate now, but I am not putting a 100 dollars into any vending machine. Oh, and with 16 million in guaranteed money, it’s more like a regular twix.
