Punter Jeff Feagles claimed one of his punts, after the offsides penalty, hit the cable that controls the overhead camera. The punt traveled 44 yards, but headed towards mid-field, and not out of bounds as he intended
I am stunned they did not re-kick, there has to be something in the rulebook about this.
Tom Coughlin backed up Justin Tuck, on what they both thought was a bad personal foul call.
It’s good to know that Coughlin isn’t taking away his player’s aggressiveness on bad calls. He did the same thing last week with Kenny Phillips. The Monday night football crew just replayed the hit and said there is no room for that call in tackle football. 2 seconds later Mike Tirico asked for someone to make a play on special teams and the Steelers blocked a punt. When Mike Tirico says something, YOU DO IT.
Terrell Thomas had his first start at the nickel and held up nicely. He made a nice play inside his own 20 knocking a pass away from Terrell Owens. He hurt his shoulder on the play, but later returned. The injury was deemed a stinger.
Nice to see the second rounder getting involved.
Danny Clark was involved in more of coach Spagnuolo’s sub packages this week and he made his coach look good. Clark finished with 9 tackles, several of them were made in the backfield.
Corey Webster had his the first 2 interception game of his career.
Jacobs and Webster are up for free agency after the year, and the way both of them are playing, Jerry Reese is going to have to “show them the money.” Any hate mail for that last comment is totally deserved.
Justin Tuck, and his chunk like head, cannot be stopped by any one man. His head alone has 3.5 sacks.
If you don’t double team chunk you are going to pay, and your Quarterback may disintegrate.
After re-watching the game, it appears that Eli Manning, not Plaxico Burress, misread the coverage on the second quarter interception. Eli’s hot route was to his left. Plaxico correctly saw the corner sitting down on the short route and stayed with his deeper option, instead of breaking the route off. Eli claimed it was on him as well, although, he could just be taking the blame like a good leader should. Still, the tape seems to show Plaxico read it correctly.
I thought it was funny to hear reporters saying Plax and Eli are not on the same page. Perhaps they were off for one play, but that certainly does not mean there is a bigger issue, although soap opera’s are always more interesting.
Wednesday will be David Tyree’s first practice back after knee surgery in the offseason and a barking hamstring. Sadly, it may be his last practice as the Giants will either have to activate him or put him on IR for the rest of the year.
Unfortunately, due to a deep roster, I think Tyree has played his final game for the Giants. No Giant fan will ever forget his name.
Tom Coughlin was not happy with John Carney‘s kickoffs, but he also said he would not carry two kickers on gameday.
