Dick Stockton likes Out of Bounds

by David Jacks on October 27th, 2008 at 7:44 pm

Twice in the first quarter Dick Stockton, announcing a play on the sideline, said “he failed to get out of bounds.” He then repeated this phrase early in the third quarter. When did getting out of bounds, when time is not a factor, become an issue?

Later, in the 4th quarter, Troy Aikman noted that Plaxico Burress had the wherewithal to stay in bounds when the clock did matter. Stockton did not reply, further cementing the theory that he only likes players who get out of bounds.

Many Giant fans feel Troy Aikman has a Cowboy Bias. I am not here to decide whether or not that is true, but when discussing the upcoming game he did mention, that despite a Cowboy win, they were struggling mightily. Troy also backed Kenny Phillips on the “hitting a defenseless receiver” call. He later sarcastically jabbed the officials, when he stated, that technically Nate Washington was also defenseless when James Butler nailed him from behind.

I am glad someone brought this up. I also heard him keep saying this and I turn to my friend and say why does it matter that he gets out of bounds with 13 minutes left? People often talk about the bad offciating in the NFL this season but there has also been horrible announcing as well. Thank God Joe Buck is doing the World Series because listening to him and Aikman is like nails on a chalkboard.

I like Aikman a lot. Easily Fox’s best color guy. Moose Johnson (another ex-Cowboy) is good too actually.
