The Giants had a tremendous come from behind win today in Pittsburgh , as they overcame several missed opportunities in the red zone to beat the Steelers 21 to 14.
The Steelers did everything in their power to hand this game to the Giants but the Giants could not get in the end zone early on, settling for four field goals. The Giants got in the red zone four times in the first quarter alone and failed to convert.
The Giants defense kept the game close and a bad snap resulted in a safety that tied the game at 14. This would be the turning point of the game, as the Giants went on to finally score their first touchdown of the game soon after that, late in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning to tight end Kevin Boss.
Both team’s defenses were stout, with lots of big aggressive hits. A goal-line stand by the Steelers prevented the Giants from taking the lead earlier in the fourth quarter.
Ben Roethlisberger threw four interceptions, one each by Bryan Kehl, Corey Webster, James Butler and Kenny Phillips. It was the first time the Giants had four interceptions since October 23, 2006 at Dallas and the first career interceptions for Kehl and Phillips.
The Giants sacked Roethlisberger five times. Mathias Kiwanuka had three of the sacks, tying the career high. Justin Tuck, who leads the team with 6.0 sacks, and Dave Tollefson had the other two sacks.
Brandon Jacobs was held to 47 yards while Derrick Ward had 37. Eli threw one touchdown and was limited to 199 yards.
Plaxico Burress lost his start today due to disciplinary action for missing a treatment the team had scheduled for him. Dominek Hixon started in his place and had one big catch for 17 yards. Plaxico entered the game early in the second quarter and was limited to 3 catches for 15 yards. Steve Smith had 45 yards on 3 catches and Derrick Ward caught 5 passes for 43 yards.
The Giants return home to take on the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday.

Not our best game, but certainly our best win. WOW! Defense was amazing minus a couple big plays. Offense didnt get it done in the red zone, but give the Steelers defense credit for locking down (plus, I still think Jacobs got in). We still made plays when we needed. Anyway, GREAT WIN.
Couple of corrections too: Eli didnt throw an INT, but a TD. Also, Burress did have a catch (at least one I know of), and he entered the game in the first quarter for sure. He was on the field for the 2nd red zone failure.
Pretty lively blog!
It has occured to me over the last couple games that the Giants may want to work into the rotation some series with Both Jacobs and Ward – with Ward lined up at FB. The teams scheming against the G-men have major match-up problems which have led to multiple opportunities for hedgecock. Only problem is that his hands are made of iron, like the rest of him.
Obviously if you used this backfield only when you wanted to throw it is useless as they would simply key off the personnel package – but if it was used during several series the matchup problems that cause Hedgecock to be open will emerge with Ward being able to take great advantage. I am also impressed with Ward’s pass protection and blocking ability which will make him a useful FB on the plays not directed his way.
