Coach Coughlin’s postGame Comments

I think that the main thing about this is the way that we prepared. I think the players prepared very well. The coaches did an excellent job of preparing the players. They were excited about this game and this team, and it is a good Seattle team. I am not backing off of that statement. We got some things going our way today and it was enjoyable to watch all these guys participate and have an opportunity to play.
What was your assessment of your young receivers today?
I think we were able to get… Sinorice (Moss) got in and had some plays, which was good. Mario (Manningham) got in and had some plays, which was good. Domenik (Hixon) played just like he did right through the preseason and when he has an opportunity. He played very well. Steve (Smith) got his snaps, Amani (Toomer), so we got a chance to get some people in the game.
With the layoff how good was it to get off to a fast start?
We knew we had to. The last two times we played this team we didn’t start very fast and they are a very fast, very physical team, very good up front, good offensive line, good defensive line, so we knew that we would have to start fast and it was good to see that. I just though that Eli (Manning) played well and each time we play, he plays a little bit better.
Can you talk about how your offensive line played today?
They were challenged and they knew it and they responded well. Our hat goes off to those guys and the way they played. We have to keep it going.
Were you pleased with the efficiency that the team had today?
I was glad for the efficiency, that is what you work for. Our execution seemed to be pretty good, I haven’t seen the tape, but it seemed to be good and that is what you practice and prepare for. It was good to see the plan executed the way that it was.
How are Hixon and (Kareem) McKenzie?
We will see. I think probably tomorrow we will be able to tell more.
Were they taken out for precautionary reasons or did they have to come out?
No, they needed to come out.
Did this win send a message about the Plaxico Burress suspension?
We are just talking about today and winning the game, a bunch of guys playing as a team and realizing the idea and the concept of team.
What led you to stay with John Carney today?
Really there was no significant reason to change and Lawrence continues to get better and continues to benefit from John being here and their preparation together, so I just think that there really was no urgency. You always need the roster spots, but we weren’t pushed into having to have that spot.
Even with Burress out of the lineup you did not shy away from throwing the ball deep?
We really tried to incorporate the bigger plays, the big plays, because we had studied and knew some of the thoughts of us strategically playing the game that way, but there was no reason to because in having Mario active and having Domenik active and so on we felt we could get some vertical things done.
Can you talk about your third down defense and how they were able to stop the Seahawks again and again?
We wanted to challenge. We wanted to challenge in every capacity. We certainly wanted to be on the field with our offense and have our defense on the sideline and the ability to convert those third downs in our favor really helped that.
Did you use a lot of counter plays?
Some misdirection stuff, yeah.
Because their defense was over-pursuing?
Without saying exactly every little detail we just wanted to balance up a very good, very fast defensive team.
Did you emphasize coming out and starting the second half strong after the big first half?
We did. We emphasized coming back out and nobody gets any credit for a half a game and we emphasized coming back out and taking that opening kickoff and doing something with the ball and the players responded.
Brandon Jacobs had the longest run of his career today. Can you talk about how that came about?
He was having a good day and he got himself going north and south and broke a couple tackles, and again our line gave him a nice opportunity to get through the line of scrimmage and he basically did the rest.
What kind of challenge does Cleveland give you next week?
Ha ha. Can we enjoy this for a few minutes before we start talking about Cleveland?

Dear Lawrence,
Please take all the time you need before coming back. In fact, I think you ought to take a nice winter long vacation just to make sure you are OK. Be sure to check back in with the team in March.
Sincerely,
