In today’s New York Times, Michael Strahan breaks down four key plays that led to one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history.
Among them is a play where linebacker Antonio Pierce, who calls the defensive plays, would wave his arms up and down to tell the defense to just line up and rush, basically a free for all, but while staying free of the ends.
The play was employed with 25 seconds left in the game, with the Giants having just scored the go-ahead touchdown, and Tom Brady was attempting to stage a last change drive of his own. Left tackle Jay Alfred took an inside route vacated by the center and caught a free lane to Brady.
