Power Rankings: Giants Are A Top 10 Team

Three top sports websites have posted their power ranking listings for Week 1 of the 2008 NFL Season.

ESPN’s Matt Mosley has the Giants listed at No. 8 overall…

“I had to do it. You drop at least four spots when you lose the best defensive player on the team.”

Pete Prisco of CBS Sportsline has the Giants at No. 6 overall…

“Don’t go to sleep on the Giants. They were not a fluke team last season. The development of Eli Manning makes them even better. The loss of Osi Umenyiora will be felt, however.”

Dr. Z of Sports Illustrated puts the Giants at No. 9 overall…

“The defending champs could surprise us. And Justin Tuck could emerge as one of the truly great linemen this season, but with both starting DE’s gone, the temptation might be to keep Tuck on the field longer than what makes sense, and then the whole equation goes kaboom!”

I think this is ideal for the Giants considering that they lost Michael Strahan, Gibril Wilson, Osi Umenyiora and Kawika Mitchell, all of whom were starters last season at some point.
