Washington Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor is out with a sprained knee/bone bruise and worked before practice with trainers on Sunday, however, he never saw the practice field. According to Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post, Taylor is unlikely to play, but head coach Jim Zorn said that the team will evaluate his status right up through Thursday’s pregame warm ups against the Giants before making a final call.
The Redskins also made the move of demoting 32-year old tackle Jon Jansen to a backup role. The veteran tackle failed to beat out Stephon Heyer for the starting job. The Redskins gave Jansen a five-year, $27 million deal prior to the start of the 2007 season with $10 million in guarantees.
Redskins second-round pick WR Malcolm Kelly appears to be a longshot to play on Thursday against the Giants due to an injured knee. Zorn believes Kelly will be out two more weeks.
Lastly, wide receiver Antwaan Randle El is expected to start in the opener on Thursday, despite having a broken bone in his left hand.

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly interested in signing one of the recently waived quarterbacks to be their third QB behind starter Tony Romo and backup Brad Johnson. Among the names recently mentioned include former Buccaneers quarterback Chris Simms as well as former Vikings and Jets quarterback Brooks Bollinger.
The Cowboys are also down a receiver after losing Sam Hurd for two-to-four weeks, but will have Isaiah Stanback available for the week one game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Philadelphia Eagles have scrapped all plans to use cornerback Lito Sheppard at wide receiver, but he still does not appear satisfied with being the No. 3 cornerback.
The Eagles also got some help at linebacker, bringing back former Giant Tank Daniels, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
