Interesting note out of Tom Rock’s in-progress chat at Newsday.
Rock has heard that the Giants and Plaxico Burress‘ agent Drew Rosenhaus have a deal in place and it’s been a few days but Plaxico has yet to sign it.
Speculation is that he’s hurt that it didn’t happen fast enough or he wants more money.
Tom Rock, Giants beat reporter at Newsday, will be holding a live chat to talk Giants football at 11AM this morning.
Head over to Rock’s blog at Newsday and have your questions ready.
Please answer the following question, while considering the team’s ownership, current management, talent, etc.:
On a scale of 1–10, 10 being ’100 percent confident,’ 1 being ‘No confidence at all,’ how confident are you in the overall future-direction of the Giants?
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
Brett Favre told reporters his thoughts on Michael Strahan following in his footsteps of an early un-retirement.
“If I was a Giant, I’d do whatever I could to get him out and have him back on my team,” Favre said at Jets practice. “The guy still looks great. (He’s a) hell of a player. I would have done whatever to try to get him back initially, but now, how could you not want him back? Wouldn’t that be something, he comes back and we start a trend?”
Will New York lose yet another AARP member? Stay tuned.
Ralph Vacchiano at the New York Daily News confirms a report that Giants GM Jerry Reese reached out to Michael Strahan‘s agent about his interest in returning to the Giants.
Strahan’s agent, Tony Agnone said the discussion was very general and very preliminary and definitely didn’t involve any talks about money. Reese told Agnone to let the Giants know if and when Strahan decides he’s serious about a return.
“They reached out and they talked to us about the possibility of Strahan returning,” Agnone said. “It’s something he’s thinking about.” Agnone said Strahan “feels the ship isn’t even out of the harbor and they’re already taking on the cannons. He feels like maybe he should jump back in there.”
Strahan is vacationing in Greece and has no immediate plans to return to the United States before the end of the week at the earliest. A source close to Strahan said it wouldn’t be difficult for him to get out of his contract to work as an NFL analyst for Fox Sports.

The Giants waived WR D.J. Hall and DB Miguel Scott. They also waived/injured S Craig Dahl (knee) earlier today getting them down to 77 players.
They need to be down to 75 by 4 p.m. tomorrow. One of those moves will likely be placing DE Osi Umenyiora on injured reserve.
Mike Garafolo at the Star Ledger reports that WR Plaxico Burress (ankle) practiced fully today.
Burress spoke about how it felt to go all out in practice for the first time in a long time.
“I decided to pull the old car out of the garage and see how I felt today – get some of the dust off of it,” Burress said in the team’s press release. “I felt pretty good. I’m feeling a lot better – a hundred percent. I didn’t have any limitations going either way, right or left. I jumped up and made a few catches. I’m just trying to get back to my old self – getting off the line full speed and being able to accelerate when the ball is in the air. I’m trying to get all the kinks out of the armor.
“I forgot how tough it is to run routes when you’re a little bit winded in the two-minute drill, even though I didn’t go but a few plays. It’s just good to get out there and run around again. I’m happy I can go out there and run without any pain. I’m basically trying to get into the best playing shape that I can and get my cardio up. I hope I feel pretty good tomorrow.”
LB Antonio Pierce (back), LB Danny Clark (groin), and LB Jonathan Goff (back) did not practice.
Tom Rock at Newsday provides some brief practice notes today. Reporters do not have full access as they did at training camp with the team now in regular season mode.
- Danny Clark was sidelined for the portion of practice reporters witness, riding the exercise bikes with Antonio Pierce, Lawrence Tynes, David Tyree, Jonathan Goff and Terrell Thomas. Clark said earlier he was just resting the groin to be ready for Sept. 4. Clark ran some drills with Antonio Pierce before reporters were escorted away.
- Mathias Kiwanuka was playing right defensive end, opposite Justin Tuck. Linebackers Bryan Kehl was on the strongside, Blackburn in the middle, and Gerris Wilkinson on weakside.
- Plaxico Burress was seen running some routes harder than usual.
Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that the Giants have reached out to Michael Strahan and talks are currently underway to see if he would be open to returning.
Sources close to Strahan said a Giants official called Michael on Monday to gauge his interest in coming back to replace the Osi Umenyiora. The Daily News reported earlier today that Strahan is willing to come back if the Giants make a “sincere effort” to “woo him” and make an offer of $8 million for the year.
Several friends of his said Monday that he would definitely be interested in talking for a price between $12 and $8 million dollars. Prior to his retirement, the Giants were only willing to offer $6.5 million.
Talks are in the early stages, the source revealed and its unclear when they will speak again.
Giants co-owner Steve Tisch told the New York Post that the team is open to having Strahan return.
“Would I like Michael to be a New York Giants this season? Absolutely. Absolutely,” Tisch told the Post. “Will he be? I have no idea. I don’t even want to put a percentage on it but things changed very quickly, and if one of the potential solutions is to reach out to Michael, worst-case, it’s certainly worth a phone call.”
