Mushnick Takes On Giants Over PSL

...posted by Anthony De Rosa...

In the New York Post, Phil Mushnick slams the Giants and Jets over their new policy in the upcoming stadium requiring season ticket holders to purchase personal seat licenses.

Mushnick writes

Imagine if the Jets and Giants were told they had to pay a personal seat license. That in addition to paying to install 82,000 seats in their new ballpark, they had to pay an additional fee on all 82,000 of them in order not to have them removed next season. They would laugh in the faces of the extortionists, maybe even call the cops.

Of course, though, they would never have to confront such an outrage, the kind they’re presenting as a pay-or-get-lost option to their steadiest customers.

Over 90 percent of the upper level seats will have a $1,000 PSL.  Less than 5,000 seats in the lower level will have a $20,000 PSL, which will be the most expensive PSL at the new stadium.  The pricing of the PSLs for the other seats in the new stadium has not been finalized.

Update On Shockey, Jacobs Future

...posted by Gary Grund...

Vinny DiTrani of the Bergen Record reports that the Giants have pulled tight end Jeremy Shockey off the market and have decided to keep him on for the 2008 season. There was a rumor swirling that there was a multi-team deal in the works to send Shockey away from New York.

The Giants are also reportedly working with Brandon Jacobs on a new four-year contract. Jacobs was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Speculation on DiTrani’s part says that Reese may not have been able to find what he wanted in return for Shockey. I still refuse to believe that this is the best way to go. Shockey is an amazing talent, but enough with the controversy surrounding this guy. This offseason would have been the perfect time to move on without him.

Giants Claim Guard Off Waivers

The New York Giants have claimed 348 pound guard Kurt Quarterman off of waivers from the Atlanta Falcons.

Quarterman, 24, played his college ball for the Cardinals, seeing action in 37 games over his three year tenure for Louisville. He took over as the starting guard in 2004, making 24 starts for the team and recording three touchdowns during his college career.

Can you say camp fodder?

Giants Extend Chris Snee

...posted by Anthony De Rosa...

The Giants have announced their signing of right guard Chris Snee to a six-year contract extension.

“I am just happy to have it done before the season and really just have peace of mind and not worry about it and go out and play,” Snee said. “I had faith that it would be done.”

Snee, son-in-law of coach Tom Coughlin, has been a Giant his entire five year career, after being signed in the second round of the 2004 draft. Left guard Rich Seubert and left tackle David Diehl recently signed contract extensions with the Giants as well. The Giants offensive line was credited with being one of the main factors for their championship season. Locking in Snee, Seubert, Diehl along with center Shaun O’Hara and right tackle Kareem McKenzie ensures that the Giants will continue to carry that competitive advantage into the forseeable future.

“We are very pleased to get Chris extended,” general manager Jerry Reese said. “He has been a tremendous player and person for us since day one. It’s also very important to keep our offensive line intact.”

Snee spoke about the importance of chemistry among the fraternity of Giants linemen.

“We have spoken so much about how well we play together and the importance of continuity,” Snee said. “We feel like we’re the core group of the offense - that is where we feel like it starts. To keep this group together for as long as we can is important.”

Snee has started all 59 regular season and six postseason games as a Giant. He has 48 consecutive regular season starts, the third-longest streak on the team behind David Diehl (80) and Eli Manning (55).

Snee and his offensive line carried the Giants to finish fourth in the NFL in rushing yardage with an average of 134.3 yards a game.

Snee hopes to remain a Giant his entire career, which this deal likely ensures.

“That would be great,” he said. “That is what I told myself the day I came in. As I saw the roster changing so frequently, I started to think, ‘Maybe it is not as 100 percent as I thought.’ But this certainly is a great step in that direction.”
