Giants Are Not Shopping Shockey

...posted by Anthony De Rosa...

Paul Schwartz in the New York Post writes that although the Saints called and expressed interest in Jeremy Shockey, they said they are not shopping him and declined to discuss any trade.

Even if the teams were able to come to some agreement, Shockey is not able to pass a physical as he is still rehabbing from surgery.

Where is BiggieSmalls when you need him? Haha. Shockey is a true Giant. Mr. Mara saw that in him. I don’t John Mara is going to trade one of the few men that his father requested to see on his death bed. That tells me a lot about who Shockey is.

Heart and soul player. Can’t just rip that out.

all i know is the “heart and sole” was no where to be found for the last quarter of the season and the super bowl run when the Giants played their best ball of the year.

somehow we managed to squeak by

this could all be a plant story ..Paul Schwartz has been hosed over by the Giants PR team before on his info.

The guy was on crutches. He had surgery and metal rods inserted in his leg because of a fracture. The same fracture that Kiwanuka and Ward had. They weren’t on the sidelines either.

Know what? I almost hope they do trade Shockey, so you can see how wrong you are. And I’m not just pointing at you, I’m saying that to all of the people that think we’re a better team without him.

If we are, does that mean teh Cowboys are better without T.O.? Would we have been better without Strahan this year? He has been running his mouth the past few years. Do you think we were a better team because Tiki was gone? I just think guys stepped up.

i do think we are a better team now that Tiki is gone.. clearly the record and results show that

–my comment was not directed towards wishing Shock was on the sidelines supporting his teammates.. i understand there are physical constraints.. my suggestion is that if Shockey is the “heart and sole of the team” then why did they replace him so easily and why did the team perform so well with out him? hence my “Somehow we managed with out him” statement.

I think we are very close on this.. we both would trade him for a 1st rounder in the top 1/3rd of the draft..

i think when you see off season press articles that the GMen are out of the DHall market and will not trade shockey that these are ruses.. most likely Reese would like to dump Shock and covets DHall.. the posturing in the press (Focusing on TEs at the combine and saving money in the DBackfield) tells a different story.

We are definitely close on this. But to say we would trade him for a first rounder in the top 1/3 of the draft seems a bit of a stretch. I just don’t think he has that kind of value? Who in the NFL has that value? Maybe LT and Reggie Bush?

I will also agree on the fact that the record and results show that we are better without Tiki. However, I think that can be attributed to the fact that with Tiki, we never would have found out about Bradshaw. You can’t tell me that Jacobs is a better running back than Tiki. It’s not really even close. I like Jacobs at all, but Tiki was a helluva back.

Believe me when I tell you that I like Boss and I think he has a bright future. I think Mathews is a good 3rd tight end. Keeping Shockey and Boss would create matchup problems for other teams. I think they should use it as a weapon rather than trade away a strength. Especially with Amani possibly entering the twilight of his career, which could severely handicap Eli’s weapons.

i d hope LT and Bush were worth more than just a first round pick in a trade.. at least multiple. you probably cant draft a player of either quality anywhere in the 1st round (who’s closest? McFadden?)

Shockey and TIki may have better stats (and better indiuvidual careers so far) than Jacobs/Bradshaw and Matthews/Boss but
the team clearly has produced better without both. I just think Tiki/Shockey bring so much me-me drama to the table that it outshines their other team mates and makes the whole worse than the sum of the parts– and im not he only one who thinks this.
